    Items make up the labor and materials that go into building a home.

    Key Item Concepts

    • Items in BuilderZen reside at a master level, without any room, option or pricing context. This allows the items to be used across multiple plans and communities while enabling different pricing per community and/or plan. This also significantly reduces the number of items a builder has to manage.

    • Items are used to create takeoff estimates. The same items are also used in the Vendors area to define vendor contract pricing.

    • Takeoff estimates and Vendor contract prices then come together in the context of a community to generate a consistent Floorplan Budget with pricing for a given plan in a given community.

    Associating Items in plan and community takeoffs with Choices (covered in the next section) allows builders to control when the material is included in a Floorplan Budget or a Job Budget.
